In my opinion, it is the gastronomic capital of the Netherlands, and that is why a list of tasty and delicious restaurants in Amersfoort is an absolute must-have. There are a few restaurants that truly stand out, namely: Merlot, Dara, Madonna, Dikke Dirk & Tres Tapas. They all have something unique to offer and, of course, serve delicious food. To begin with, the culinary gem: Merlot. This restaurant is top-notch, and the dishes served here are perfectly balanced, allowing the flavours to shine through. You can taste the exotic herbs, aromas, and ingredients they incorporate into their dishes, and it all comes together harmoniously. It is originally a French restaurant, with many Vietnamese influences.
Tasting Menu or À la Carte
Evidently, you can choose from the à la carte menu, but honestly, I recommend going for a multi-course tasting menu. This way, your dishes are expertly curated and surprising. They serve both vegetarian and regular menus, ranging from 5 to 8 courses.

Additionally, they have a delightful and extensive wine list, with over 100 wines stored in 9 climate-controlled wine cabinets. After all, the name of the restaurant is Merlot Restaurant and Wine Bar for a reason.

Another little gem with an oriental & Mediterranean touch is Dara, where they serve their mezes with sophisticated and complex flavours. Mezes are small dishes of Mediterranean cuisine. In summer, you can enjoy your courts right across the ‘Eem’ river at the terrace with bustling views of the city. Designed by an English architect, the striking building has many cosy sitting and dining areas.
Tasting Menu or À la Carte
Delve into the tastiest mezes and choose from mezes with bread, fish, meat and vegetarian. On the other hand, you can also choose from two composite menus, the chef’s and a deluxe one. All in all, be surprised by the delicious taste sensations.

Next up, Madonna, and no, I am not talking about the artist, but rather a charming and cosy restaurant located on Krommestraat in the heart of Amersfoort, right by the city canal. The interior is snug and inviting, with ample space for guests to enjoy their meals. It is a beautifully restored monumental building, commonly known as the Steven Volp property. They offer a decent selection for vegetarians as well.
À la carte
Madonna offers pure and healthy dishes with a nod to Italy. It is a great place to indulge in heavenly bites or have a tasty lunch. Besides, you can enjoy a delightful drink accompanied by an extensive selection of snacks or a sharing platter. Forthwith a wood-fired oven, they create not only mouth-watering pizzas but also delicious dishes like roasted chicken or sea bass.

To continue with Dikke Dirck, where you can indulge yourself in a Burgundian experience, or at least that is their motto. The moment you step inside, it feels like you have entered a different world. Everywhere you look, there is something to see, from floating hot air balloons to globes and even paintings on the ceiling—a feast for the eyes for both adults and children alike. The famous ‘Onze Lieve Vrouwentoren’ (in English know as The Tower of Our Lady) is recreated in Dikke Dirck and steals the show as you enter up to the top floor.
À la carte
The food is delicious, from regular tartare to salmon tartare, a variety of seafood specialities, roast chicken, a good steak and some scrumptious burgers.

Lastly, Tres tapas, a family-run business that in a short time has grown to now 9 branches across the Netherlands. Since 2015, Tres tapas has been serving delicious tapa dishes at a fixed price and in addition, you can enjoy a homemade sangria. Enjoy exclusive bites such as tuna sashimi, beef teriyaki, pulled beef salad or pomodoro soup.
À la carte
An extensive choice of tapas in all sorts of smells and colours, let your taste buds do their work and choose the tapas that make you happy, or be surprised by something you might not have tasted before. There is plenty of choice for everyone and also a wide selection of vegetarian dishes.
