Online Travel Guide
Planning a trip to the astonishing south of Spain, where even in the midst of winter, you can enjoy delightful balmy days basking in the sun? Consider the province of Almería as your destination. However, you might be wondering what the best spots to stay, as well as the best bars and restaurants, are. Explore my Aguadulce & Roquetas travel guide for all the answers!

Aguadulce or Roquetas de Mar?
If I may say so myself, Roquetas de Mar is a tad more touristy; that is where most of us go. However, why not consider Aguadulce? What are the differences? In this Aguadulce & Roquetas travel guide, you will notice that both places are located by the sea and offer relaxing beaches. Roquetas is bigger than Aguadulce, and both places fall under the municipality of Roquetas de Mar.

The port of Aguadulce
Aguadulce has a lovely harbour, where you can enjoy a fine party in the evening. Additionally, in the morning, there is a delightful atmosphere, and you can order a delicious Tostada with coffee at the ‘Por un Beso’ restaurant. Furthermore, a Tostada, which is a simple toasted baguette topped with ingredients like tomato, salmon, or tuna, is available for a small price.
The reason why I love this part of Spain so much is mainly because the prices are so low. In fact, for a sandwich like this with coffee, the two of us spent less than €6.

Boulevard in Aguadulce
Along the beach and the boulevard in Aguadulce, you will find a lot of Chiringuitos (beach bars) where you can eat deliciously. For a good recommendation, choose Chiringuito Diego, which is completely full of locals during rush hours. Next to this Chiringuito is a building along the beach called ‘501’, where you will find many more restaurants, and in the evening, you can also go out here. Additionally, if you walk up a bit more from 501, you’ll discover a delicious Basque Taberna called ‘La Trainera’, offering the best Basque tapas and dishes, worth the climb!
Campillo del Moro in Aguadulce
Furthermore, for local tapas bars, it is best to head towards the ‘El Campillo del Moro’ district, where you will find plenty of options such as Nuestra Taberna, Jarana – Casual Food, Bodega Catavinos, or La Bodega del Jamón.

The harbour & promenade of Roquetas de Mar
Roquetas de Mar boasts a lovely quiet promenade with a somewhat larger beach and a nice castle near the harbour, known as Castillo de Santa Ana, dating back to 1501 and fully restored in 1997. In summer, you can enjoy numerous fun performances here, thanks to the large open-air theatre.
Furthermore, at the port of Roquetas de Mar, you will find a delicious fish tapas bar called Los Pescadores. Moreover, if you seek a more culinary experience, the restaurant Pa’Levante, located by the sea, is amazing. Similarly, on the same street, you will discover La Pita Café, where you can enjoy a good cup of coffee with a tostada or other tasty breakfast options. Finally, you can savour a delicious panini at (as the name suggests) ‘Restaurante Brasserie Panini’, where two Dutch owners have created a nice concept.

Playa de Cerillos, south of Roquetas
Are you done with all the small and busier beaches for a while, then opt for a quiet, large beach in a beautiful natural area. That is Playa de Cerrillos and who knows, you might spot some wonderful birds here. This natural area can be found just at the south of Roquetas de Mar.
In search of the unusual shells by the surf
Looking for Orejitas de Mar? Wait, what are those?! Those are little, pretty shells that have a funnel shape inside. They bring good luck and the myth is: “If you carry these with you, close to your heart it attracts love, if you keep them in your wallet it will attract more money”. People also like to use them in jewellery. You can just find them along the beach in this region.

Bus information
If you wish to travel by bus, then keep in mind that in this region you should not pay attention to the time, buses run the time they want, except from the main station; “Traquilamente, porfavor”. On the other hand, it does not cost a dime, you pay between €1 and €3 for a ticket from about half an hour to two hours.

Places to stay in this Aguadulce & Roquetas travel guide
Aguadulce
- Moon Hotel & SPA if you want to stay by the port and a few minutes’ walk from the beach.
- If you want to stay in a fancy design hotel that is not too expensive, choose HO Aguadulce.
- Would you rather choose a private 2-bedroom flat? Then the flat in Torre Clara is a great place, just a 10-minute walk from the beach.
- If you prefer to stay in a hostel, then Hostales Juan de Austria I & II is a good option.
Roquetas de Mar
- Conversely, if you seek a lovely cosy studio with a nice terrace, I recommend Casa Amelia.
- Moreover, if you are looking for a flat with sufficient facilities such as a swimming pool and tennis court, Alberto Villa Romana is a nice option.
- Lastly, for those who prefer a large-scale hotel on the beach with good reviews, Hotel Best Sabinal & Bahía Serena are two great accommodations to consider.

La Envía
Are you a mountain lover? Then La Envía is a wonderful option. Here, you will find a gigantic golf course among the mountains, boasting no fewer than 18 holes. In addition, if you have rented a car, you can reach the beach within 15 minutes. For golfers, this is a perfect place to play, especially in autumn when the temperature is incredibly pleasant. Evía feels like a relaxing valley with the best views from your accommodation.
Even in the Club de Golf you can go for your tasty tapa, as they have a number of tapas here for a pleasant price including your drink. Trust me, you will not be paying headline prices, as you might expect.
Accommodation in La Envía
- A marvellous 5-star hotel, for which you pay comparatively incredibly little: Hotel Envia Almería Spa & Golf
- Some luxury flats located on the golf course, which are comparatively inexpensive compared to Northern Europe: Envía Almería Apartments Spa & Golf
