Undoubtedly, in Chamonix and the surrounding villages, you are able to start several hike or bike routes with astonishing views over the mountains. Places such as Le Buet and Vallorcine are great places to start. Routes for day hikes
Perhaps you are planning to make wonderful day hikes in the Chamonix area, have a good look at the following routes you could take in like manner, or just add some of your own ideas in it.
Hike to Lac Blanc
Start early from the village of La Flégère, from here you could take the cable way. The route is quite steep, so pull out about 5 hours if you want to take your time. In particular, this route is often done by families with small children who have a reasonably good hiking experience.
Hike to Les Gorges de la Diosaz
Undeniably, are Les Gorges de la Diosaz. This place is near the village of Servoz, where you can take a beautiful walk through the park with its lovely waterfalls. In the case that you take it easy, this hike takes you about 2 hours. Take into account that they ask a small entrance fee. Thereafter, you could walk through the village of Servoz and have a drink somewhere.
Hike or bike the bridge at La passerelle Himalayenne de Passy direction Lac Vert
Go ahead from the village of Praz Coûtant, this is a small walk of 2.5 hours in total and about 1 hour by bike.




Routes for day bikes
Additionally, Chamonix and the surrounded villages offer fantastic roads, paved or unpaved, to make a stunning bike route.
Bike the route de Vaudagne
A nice bike route from any starting point in Chamonix, is the route to Vaudagne, the route is plausibly tough and takes an average of 4 hours to complete. You cycle through lovely places on a passable road, you could easily track the route via Google Maps, if your internet is up to speed of course. Otherwise, use theapp maps.me.
Bike the route to Argentiére and Col des Montets
Basically, this route can just be started from Chamonix, the route is doable for the average cyclist and takes about 2 hours, not a long trip, but worth it to enjoy the charming surroundings.
Make a nice descent with your mountain bike from the steep slopes
At the top of the mountains, you could often take challenging routes down. Such as from the small village Le Tour, for instance, take the cable car Le Tour Col de Balm. Chiefly, there are good paths laid out here for you to cycle down.



Multi-day treks
Besides day treks, you could also do multi-day treks and sleep in a hut along the way. To be sure of having a spot, book these in advance because they are quickly full, especially in the high season. There are different ways to do these trekking’s, through a travel organization where everything is arranged for you or by booking everything yourself. Have a look at some different multi-day treks.

Tour du Mont Blanc
- Duration: ± 11 days
- Intended for very experienced hikers
- Starting points: Chamonix (FR), Courmayeur (IT) and Trient (SW).
- Quick description: This route takes you through the border triangle of France, Switzerland and Italy. Also, doable as petit tour which takes you ± 4 days.
Aiguilles Rouges
- Duration: ± 5 days
- For fairly experienced hikers
- Starting point: Chamonix
- Quick description: Trek through the rugged mountains and visit the beautiful Lac Blanc
Gouter Hut route
- Duration: ± 2 days
- For the experienced and very advanced hikers among us
- Starting point: Les Houches via the little train to Refuge du Nid d’Aigle
- Quick description: Climb to the top of Mont Blanc
Haute Route
- Duration: ± 11 days
- Again recommended for the very advanced hikers
- Starting point: Chamonix and ending in Zermatt
- Quick description: Here you pass the highest peaks of the Alps, the 2 big mountains Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn


Get some train tickets
Because all villages can be reached from Chamonix by train, it is definitely advisable to buy train tickets. The train runs during the day until 20:00 in the evening. Obviously, these train rides are guaranteed amazing and take you through the rugged mountains.
